The Drywall Podcast

The Drywall Podcast was created by entrepreneur Nick Harmony Long time Journeyman Finisher, Owner and developer of Fresco Harmony because there wasn’t a podcast dedicated to the men and women who make the Drywall Industry what it is. From this podcast we’ve enriched relationships, fostered community and documented the history of drywall and beyond.

Doug McKenzie - Drywall CEO

Friday Aug 09, 2024

Friday Aug 09, 2024

On this episode of The Drywall Podcast we take a look at the "not so fun" side of drywall and dive into profit margins and numbers.  Doug has not only built an amazing business in the residential sector but he's also conquered the commercial side.  His approach just might inspire you to dig a little deeper in your own business too.  Doug is a systems person and by creating specific systems for running a successful business, he's put together a step by step program for you to achieve the same results.  It's called the Drywall CEO Academy and it's now available for you to check out.  Just message him on instagram for more information.  @realdougmckenzie

I'm excited about this one.  Kaila and Allison are the quintessential influencers but it wasn't always that way.  It wasn't until Allison saw a video by JWOL that she got inspired to begin making videos on TikTok and that vision turned into a 170K following on Instagram.  Being influential is just the tip of the iceberg for these young and ambitious women in the trade.  They continue to innovate and grow with brands and new technologies that make their business strong.  I was blown away by these two and I hope you will be too on this, the 104th episode of The Drywall Podcast.

Every now and again I get an interview where I just jive with the person.  Hayden is one of those people.  I had a chance to meet Hayden at the last training in Barrie Ontario and we hit it off right away and I knew we needed to chat.  Hayden is a 28 year old drywall business owner but to talk to him you'd think he was 40.  He's very sharp, determined, and has an eire to business that's unlike anyone I've seen.  We discuss his rise to fame and how he leverages exceptional video content to create his brand into what it is today.  Hayden is a pleasure and I'm sure you'll glen a few pearls of wisdom on this, the 103rd episode of The Drywall Podcast. Friday Jul 19, 2024

We catch up with Brandon Hunter once again to discuss his roll with SurPro Stilts and kind of roam all over the place with this conversation.  No matter though, Brandon has much to say about the industry and we have a fantastic conversation digging Into the weeds.  We discuss a broad range of topics including, but not limited to, marketing strategy, women in the trades, and a ton about stilts and stilt safety.  Brandon has been in and around the drywall industry spanning almost 30 years and has a lot to say about it on this, the 102nd episode of The Drywall Podcast.

Jammie made the mistake of reaching out to me on Instagram messenger and telling me how much he liked various episodes of The Drywall Podcast.  After checking out his instagram page I knew he needed to be the next interviewee on the show.  We discuss how he got his start as a lowly painter back in the day and how that work transitioned to drywall.  He's worked with employees and without and we discuss the positives and negatives of both.  We also talk a lot about family and navigating this crazy life all sprinkled with a little popcorn on this, the 101st episode of The Drywall Podcast

Paps Duggins - Drywall Alien

Friday Jun 28, 2024

Friday Jun 28, 2024

Paps is one of those people you meet that just brightens up your day.  His friendly energy and zest for the trade is unmatched.  Paps also happened to be The Drywall Podcast first episode way back in May of 2022 and I'm honored to have him back for episode 100.  We dive into his story again but we also talk a little bit about the Surry collaboration I got to take part in, some of his systems strategies, and why he would prefer working with someone else.  I'm excited for the 100th episode and I hope you are too.  I couldn't have asked for a better interviewee.
This episode and all the episodes in the month of May are brought to you by Rocket City Drywall.  Catch my two part interview with owner Alana Black on episodes 96 and 97 only on The Drywall Podcast.

Friday Jun 14, 2024

Brandon is one of those interviews that I'm excited to dig into because of his vast knowledge of the drywall industry.  He actually started All Wall online presence and was instrumental in developing the brands of many of the drywall products you use today.  Join us as we travel the past of an aspiring web developer as he navigates the early days of the internet and how his vision helped shape an industry.  Brandon and I are around the same age and we know many of the same people so this interview was long over due for the both of us.  I hope you enjoy this, the 99th episode of The Drywall Podcast as much as I did.

Welcome to part one of this two part adventure with Alana Black of Rocket City Drywall.  Alana took over her family business in 2016 and began making strategic changes that has enabled this mom and pop company to grow and thrive.  She has a passion for over achieving and has most recently taken on the challenge of developing a product out of recycling sheetrock that would otherwise go to the landfill.  Part one examines her roll at Rocket City and sets us up for Part two where we'll learn more about this exciting new product.
